The Lounge

A few years ago Lyman and Colleen moved from Central Texas to the Shenandoah Valley. Recently they purchased a 1935 house near James Madison University campus, and began learning how to live their lives there. The title “4 Door Lounge” derives from the study Lyman created in the backyard along with a new garden. The study has two doors to enter, one slat door from a storage closet in the basement, remade into a desk, and one door salvaged from the original garage (now torn down) repurposed as a back wall.

Here in the summer of 2022, I am sixty-nine years old. Next year is a big one for me: seventy. More about that later. So I am creating this website as sort of a repository of my life. It’s for me, and I hope other folks find it interesting. If not, sorry; but I am not sorry, anymore. I have transferred some material from a previous attempt at a personal website “Fernrock,” created when Colleen and I first moved to Harrisonburg. But I got distracted with part-time jobs, and it floundered, and I quit paying for the domain name. I plan to bring over material from a site I have on Austin Community College’s servers. I expect that the fall of 2022 will be my final year teaching for them. And I am hoping, maybe, to bring over material from a website where I dropped essays about my family’s travels across the U.S in 2013-2014.

And most of all, I will be adding new material from my daily life in the garden and in the 4 Door Lounge. I hope you find something to interest you.
